Augmented Tangible Molecular Models

چکیده

Physical models of biomolecular components and their interactions are extraordinarily useful aids in understanding complex biological structure and organization. With our collaborators at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) and the University of Utah we are exploring the production of such models through autofabrication technology, and augmenting them with a variety of interface modalities, including augmented visual overlays, haptic interaction, voice command input, auditory displays, and “data probe” interaction. Our multimodality mixed reality approach is integrated around PMV, TSRI’s Python-based molecular visualization software. Results of this collaborative development project are proving useful for both molecular biology research and teaching.
